Women4Inclusion: celebrating diversity with the new issue

What does it mean to be seen, heard, and understood? For many, this isn’t a given – it’s a fight. We believe in embracing the unique experiences that make each of us who we are. And the latest issue of our Women4Women magazine, brings this ethos to life.

This edition, Women4Inclusion, is truly special. Bigger than ever, it gathers voices of our employees and external contributors from all across the globe telling their journeys towards diversity, equity, and inclusion. These voices, from different cultures, backgrounds, and industries, unite in a common belief that true strength lies in the unique selves, each having a seat at the table. Their stories are raw and unapologetic. Each brings something deeply personal and transformative, showing what it means to live and breathe diversity.

You’ll meet people whose lives and work break down societal biases, those finding strength in their community, or those who had to hard-earn self-acceptance confronting prejudice and discrimination. They all remind us that identity is not something to be hidden or explained but something to be embraced fully.

“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are not themes, but calls to action for each of us. The stories we find in this magazine release an incredible positive force, and it is this force that we must express to aspire to a better society,”

Yoshiki Kimura, President & Managing Director at Fujifilm Europe.

“By shedding light on the stories of real people, exploring their experiences, and examining the effects of diverse and inclusive practices, we aim to inspire our readers, calling them to action. Within the pages of our Women4Inclusion, we will delve into various aspects of culture, habits, perspectives and actions that are key to achieving a more diverse and inclusive society. We firmly believe that sharing these narratives will challenge preconceptions, stimulate authentic conversations and ultimately pave the way for positive change at Fujifilm,”

Luana Porfido, European Head of Corporate Communication & ESG Management, Fujifilm Europe GmbH.

Also, we are proud to feature photos of our X-Photographers — Valentina Tamborra (Italy), Dorota Kaszuba (Poland), Ewa Meissner (Poland), Karolina Jonderko (Poland), Silvia Pogoda (Poland) — as well as works of a talented photographer from the UK, Amin Islam McDonald. Their photos capture raw emotion of people on the margins with a striking honesty and frame diversity in its most authentic form, each bringing their unique style.

We invite you to take a moment, read these stories, and let them inspire you to look beyond the familiar, to recognize and value the full spectrum of human differences, and more than that — to join us fostering a culture of belonging where people from all backgrounds feel welcomed and valued. Inclusion doesn’t just happen because diverse individuals are present. It happens when people feel they are truly part of the team — and this is an ongoing journey we are all part of.

Women4Women 8: empowering women in print

When women deal with machines and technology, magic is made. Throughout history, they were at the forefront of innovation, bringing unique perspectives, and creative problem-solving approaches to the table. They brought empathy and ingenuity to the world of machines, thinking not only how they work but also how they can improve lives. Every day, women in tech around the world are making incredible strides, developing software, designing hardware, managing IT systems, and driving innovation, and still, their contributions often go unnoticed.

In our latest, 8th issue of the Women4Women magazine, we want to change the narrative and honor women who are shaping the printing and graphic arts industry. Offering a fresh perspective and a completely new look and feel, this issue is aptly titled “Women and the Machine”. From the UK to Australia, we’ve collected over 20 stories of women from all across the globe, who bring change to the world of tech. They tell about their ups and downs, motivation and learning curves, how they challenged outdated stereotypes in the male-dominated field and what drives them to move on. On this inspiring journey, you’ll be accompanied also by evocative photographs taken in Italian factories in the 1980s by Turin-based photographer Paola Agosti.

“The stories we have collected in this new issue are all about a challenge. A challenge that has been quietly but not yet fully recognised, one that sees women and machines progressing and evolving together, demonstrating that technology, in this case applied to the printing industry, is not a men-only activity. These magnificent women tell us how they are able to create empathy with these mechanical ‘hearts’ and thanks to the strong ‘bond’ that is created, it has been possible to achieve results that we can describe as artistic. Business aptitude is not enough to do this,” – says Luana Porfido, European Head of Corporate Communication and ESG Management, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH.

The magazine features insights from the souls of Fujifilm, including Makiko Numata, Mihoko Endo and Isabelle Katrina Morales, who highlight the importance of innovation, perseverance and breaking down long-established barriers. At the same time, there are stories of external contributors, such as Lisa Farinati, Head of Business Administration of Faservice Srl, and Chiara Bezzi, Editorial Manager of Innovative Press, who discuss the transformative power of female leadership and the importance of sustainability and inclusion in the industry. Zhu Min, Vice President of C&C Joint Printing Co. Ltd, also shares her journey and achievements, including winning the prestigious “Bi Sheng Printing Outstanding Achievement” award.

Our goal is to bring together diverse ideas, unique skills and extraordinary people to change the world. Women4Women is a concrete example that testifies to the path we have taken towards Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” – Yoshiki Kimura, President, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH.

One-of-a-kind shots: INSTAX mini 99 & PHOTO SLIDE film

From our first-ever INSTAX mini 10 launched in 1998 to the latest teeny-tiny INSTAX Pal digital camera that turned the instant photo experience upside-down, we continue to pursue the advantages of both analogue and digital technology, maximising the benefits of each.

Today, we celebrate the first INSTAX launch in 2024 and the new addition to our INSTAX analogue product line-up, the INSTAX mini 99. With its classic and stylish matte black finish, this new analogue instant camera maintains the premium look and feel as the INSTAX mini 90 but also brings advanced features that no other analogue camera has seen before.

Be one-of-a-kind with light & colour

The INSTAX mini 99 is a camera for those who are not afraid to experiment. What makes it truly one-of-a-kind is its built-in LED-light feature that enhances your prints with an authentic analogue feel. You can select different colours using the special Colour-Effect Dial. This includes Faded Green, Warm Tone, Light Blue, Soft Magenta, Sepia, and Light Leak. So, right when you take the photos, one of six different colour effects will be reflected in your prints, creating a unique shot every time.

You can also combine these colour effects with other modes, like Brightness Control. This feature offers five distinct levels of brightness: the Light (“L+”) setting indicates the brightest exposure, the “L”, “D”, and “N” settings offer the normal range of brightness, and the Dark (“D-”) setting represents the darkest available brightness level.

The new camera also comes with an exciting new Manual Vignette Switch. It allows you to easily add an artistic shaded frame around the image, manually controlling the vignette with an easy-to-use switch on the lens housing.

Shooting Modes

Each moment is unique, and this camera takes it into account. With a set of different shooting modes, you can choose the one that perfectly suits the occasion and take shots even in low-light conditions. For instance, Sports Mode increases the shutter speed, so you can grab the perfect shot in action. The Double Exposure Mode lets you combine two images into one, and the Bulb Mode increases the amount of light let in, creating a brightened effect on the print.

Apart from those, the INSTAX mini 99 offers Landscape, Standard, and Macro Focus modes, easily accessible by adjusting the lens dial. The Landscape mode works great for distant subjects, while the Macro mode is perfect for close-ups and selfies.

Self-timer & Flash Control

With the self-timer feature, you can capture perfect group photos without the need for extra hands to hold the camera, letting everybody be part of a frame. You can choose among the Auto Mode, Fill-in (the flash will always fire regardless of lighting), Red-eye Removal, or turn the flash off, depending on your lighting situation.

Grip & Tripod Mount

The INSTAX mini 99 comes with a precision-milled base grip and a tripod mount that also acts as a grip when attached to the camera. This ensures a comfortable and secure hold on the camera, reducing the chances of shaky shots or accidental drops, especially in the most active shooting situations.

New INSTAX mini film: PHOTO SLIDE

With the launch of the INSTAX mini 99, we are also releasing a new INSTAX mini film, PHOTO SLIDE, that offers a new print design to add to your collection. Inspired by the photo slide used in old slide projectors, it is based on a stylish ivory colour that makes an outstanding photo effect.

Try it out firsthand, experiment with light and colours, and let your small moments feel big… and one-of-a-kind!

Fujifilm Takes the Top Award at the British Book Design & Production Awards

They say: “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. However, who could deny there’s a certain joy in holding a well-printed one, with high-quality sheets and vibrant colors, crafted with precision and commitment to quality. Print aesthetics play an important role in shaping our initial perceptions and, indeed, influencing our reading experience.

Last week, on January 24th, the BPIF once again celebrated the achievements of the print industry, highlighting the most remarkable examples of quality and creativity at the British Book Design and Production (BBD&P) Awards. Themed ‘Storytellers’, the event gathered around 200 guests at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London, presenting the best in British book production across 18 categories – from design to sustainability. And we were proud to be a part of it, showcasing the excellence of our cutting-edge printing technologies.

This year, we took the top award in the Trade Illustrated category, with the book “Realise Your Vision”. Designed by Milestone Creative and printed by a true printing mastermind Henning Rose (Wegner GmbH), it tells a story of our journey from the 1930s roots to becoming a print industry leader, combining customer stories, product details, and historical milestones, demonstrating precision and quality provided by the leading digital print technology.

Beyond Pages

The book has been printed using our two different presses – the Jet Press 750S and the Revoria Press PC1120 – presenting the wide color gamut of the machines. The Revoria Press PC1120, with its six-color palette, including metallics and pinks, was used to print the complex book jacket details, while the Jet Press 750S showcased its wide color gamut, accurately reproducing spot colors and vibrant images.

The success of “Realize Your Vision” underscores our commitment to innovation and printing excellence. And it inspires us to move forward, opening new opportunities for the printing industry. Join us on the journey and stay tuned!

SBT Validates Our Greenhouse Gas Emission Cut Target for FY2030

A tenth of a degree may seem quite insignificant on a thermometer. When checking it out of the window, it may seem just a question of whether you should wear jeans or shorts today. However, globally, even a teeny-tiny change in average temperature can unleash a cascade of consequences, fuelling unpredictable and extreme weather events. The weather goes wild, and we’ve had a hand in it.

Back in 2015, countries worldwide united under the Paris Agreement, committing to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change and keep global warming below 2°C (ideally, aiming to limit it to 1.5°C). It was a global effort to tackle one of the greatest challenges of our time. And we’re eager to contribute.

The Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative has validated our greenhouse gas emission target for FY2030, confirming that it aligns with the scientifically based goal of limiting global temperature rise, as specified in the Paris Agreement. This marks a significant milestone in our sustainability efforts.

Why 1.5°C?

In 2021, the first volume of the Sixth Assessment Report of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was published and it became clear that global warming goes faster and more intense than expected. If anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are not cut, the rate of global warming is expected to increase as well as the intensity of critical events. If the planet warms by 1.5°C, we will experience approximately 4 extreme weather events every 10 years, at 2°C – 5 or 6 extreme events, and at 4°C we will have them every year.

Our GHG Reduction Targets

As part of our Sustainable Value Plan 2030, we’ve set ambitious GHG emission reduction targets that serve as a core pillar of our commitment to addressing climate change and contributing to a more sustainable future. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our operations and across the entire product lifecycle by 50% compared to FY2019 levels.

Under the Green Value Climate Strategy, we aspire to minimize our environmental impact by promoting production activities with lower carbon footprints and delivering top-notch products and services with outstanding environmental performance. This strategy reflects our commitment to addressing environmental and social issues and creating long-term value for both society and the planet.

Why is it important?

When burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas for energy, greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. These gases serve as a barrier, trapping heat from the sun and keeping it within the atmosphere, similar to how a blanket keeps us warm at night. It’s one of the basic things that makes our life on the Earth possible. However, there can be too much of a good thing. Human activities release excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, resulting in well-known greenhouse effect and global warming. It ruins natural weather patterns. You may have already witnessed snow in summer or extremely high temperatures as well. But more than that, it causes disasters like droughts, floods, or hurricanes. Glaciers melt, the sea level rises, water absorbs more CO2 and goes more acidic, harming the marine life and ruining entire ecosystems.

These consequences have far-reaching impact and we may face bigger challenges if we don’t take action. That’s why it’s crucial to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. By understanding the impact of our actions and aiming at more sustainable choices, we have the power to limit the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. And together, we can make a positive difference, working towards a safer future for ourselves and new generations.
