How Fujifilm’s Innovation Has Made It Prime for the 21st Century

Once best known as a leading maker of photographic film, Fujifilm has reinvented itself through innovation and diversification into new business areas.
“How Fujifilm’s Innovation Has Made It Prime for the 21st Century” is an interview with Teiichi Goto, President of FUJIFILM Holdings, who talks about Fujifilm’s innovation, leadership, and other features.

“We utilized our expertise in the photographic industry to build a new base for the business, allowing our extensive portfolio to become highly rational and technologically in sync. Under the slogan of “a second foundation”, we implemented a series of reforms which allowed us to not only survive, but thrive as a first-rate enterprise.”

Teiichi Goto, CEO, Fujifilm Holdings

Since its founding in 1934, as a maker of photographic film, Fujifilm’s story has been one of technological excellence and diversification in keeping with changing times. Foreseeing the advancement of digitization in the marketplace, it boldly embarked upon the challenge of developing digital imaging cameras and other key technologies in the digital era.

With demand for photographic film declining sharply since 2000, Fujifilm leveraged its expertise to push growth in healthcare, materials, and business innovation.

This revenue composition ratio is provisional numbers for FY2020 after changing in segment from FY2021.

Fujifilm’s corporate slogan, “Value from Innovation”, reflects its commitment to creating innovative technologies, products, and services to provide new value to the world by taking on challenges and growing together with the spirit of “NEVER STOP”.

The two phrases “express our corporate stance, our DNA, and represent our strong will to continue to improve and make society, the world, and the future better,” says Goto.

Teiichi Goto puts emphasis on “trust” and “integrity”, which he describes as “the most important values underlying the corporate culture of the Fujifilm”. This has set the foundation for the company, and it will continue to grow its business through implementing new initiatives with an eye on the future.

The Perseids are coming up

The Perseids 2021 are coming up. We gathered some important information about the nights of the meteor showers at a glance. Every year between July 17 and August 24, 2021, the Perseids light up the night sky. Whenever the earth on its orbit comes very close to the former orbit of comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, the number of shooting stars increases. In ideal conditions, you can observe and enjoy more than 100 shooting stars per hour. The maximum of the Perseids will be reached in the night from August 12 to 13, 2021. On this night, you can discover and photograph particularly many shooting stars in the night sky between 7pm and 10pm.
For the Perseids the middle northern latitudes are the best location to observe the shooting stars. The best way to see the Perseids is to look to the northeast.

So that you do not miss the natural spectacle in the sky and can observe well, we have a few tips for you:

  • Pay attention to the weather forecast
  • Choose a dark place outside the city for observation, then you can see the stars best
  • The most comfortable way to observe the stars is lying down

As settings, the photographers here at FUJIFILM recommended us the following equipment and these settings and parameters for the camera:

  • Tripod and a remote shutter release with radio
  • Wide angle lens
  • Aperture 2.8
  • Shutter speed 25 seconds
  • ISO 3200
  • White balance 2800

For all readers from Germany and Austria, we would also like to point out the courses of Eugen Kamenew who is also the photographer of the amazing picture above! He regularly offers courses on astrophotography and star photography (www.kamenew.net). It is worthwhile!
He is a freelance astrophotographer and official FUJIFILM X-Photographer. With a degree in sociology, his photographic work focuses on people in a cosmological context. He was awarded the “Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2014” by the Royal Greenwich Observatory in London and BBC Sky at Night magazine.

Additionally, we would like to encourage you to have a look at his social media Channels on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube where you can see more of his amazing work.

Women4Women

women4women - take care of yourself

What happens when your colleague tells you about the importance of breast cancer prevention and manages to get you hooked on her story? Thus WOMEN4WOMEN was born – the magazine written by women who work at Fujifilm every day to spread the technology and culture of breast cancer prevention. This work is dedicated to all women so that they never let their guard down and take care of themselves.

We dedicate the first edition of our magazine to you – no matter if man or woman, so you can become passionate about reading intense and exciting stories and look at technology as a fundamental aid in the fight against breast cancer, too.

For  this year´s Pink October, we have asked colleagues from the Medical Systems field across EMEA to share their experiences and become our ambassadors. Expect to meet biomedic engineers, radiologists, scientists, electronic engineers, industrial chemistry scientists, business and marketing managers, and physicians.

While collecting their stories, we were thrilled about how personal and professional experience can have such a positive influence on the result of their work. Being focused on women who offer their experiences, this approach might look like it is relevant for women only. But we can surely say that breast cancer is a disease that every gender should be aware of.

In case you got curious, feel free to follow the link to the magazine.

It’s #WorldAnimalDay – Fujifilm sells medical systems to boost veterinary care

You have a cat, your sister has a horse and the two of you have a favourite animal at the zoo? If any of these animal friends is not doing well and needs to go for an x-ray, for example, our technology can help treat patients of any size.

Horses, small, or zoo animals can all fall ill and require adequate treatment. With our products we are looking to support veterinarians in their daily quest to advance the welfare of animals.

Thank you to Fujifilm Germany’s Medical Systems division, who have kindly shared these insights with us today. To learn more about their work, visit their homepage (in German). For our readers outside of Germany, please visit our European presence.
