FUJIFILM Holdings Named to CDP ‘A List’

We do not know where to start… We cannot describe in words how honored we are that FUJIFILM Holdings was named to CDP ‘A List’ for Leadership in Climate Action and Water Security.

CDP – Carbon Disclosure Project – is a global non-profit that drives companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Working with over 680 institutional investors with assets of US$130 trillion, CDP promotes companies to disclose and manage their environmental impacts.

We are delighted that FUJIFILM Holdings has been named as an ‘A List’ in both climate change and water security. Since clean water and air are essential for the manufacturing of photographic film, which is the starting point of the Fujifilm Group, environmental conservation is fundamental to our business activities. We will continue to contribute to society through proactive efforts such as decarbonization, conservation of water resources and reduction of waste in cooperation with local communities and government to resolve environmental issues around the world.

Teiichi Goto, president and CEO, representative director of FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation

At Fujifilm, social responsibility has a great importance across the organization. As a result, Fujifilm’s corporate social responsibility plan, ‘Sustainable Value Plan 2030,’ was established, addressing climate change and natural resource recycling. We, the Fujifilm group, have set a target of reducing water usage of the entire Fujifilm Group by 30% compared to FY2013 level and working to conserve water resources through efficient water use and wastewater treatment within our manufacturing plants.

In addition, we have set ourselves a target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the entire product lifecycle by 50% by the fiscal year ending March 2031 (FY2030) compared to FY2019 level. Therefore, we launched the environmental strategy ‘Green Value Climate Strategy‘ to manufacture with a lower environmental impact and to create products and services that offer excellent environmental performance.

What has Fujifilm accomplished towards these goals thus far?

  • Concluded a “comprehensive partnership agreement towards a decarbonized future” with the Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., to create a carbon-neutral model in manufacturing using state-of-the-art decarbonization technologies
  • Carbon neutrality at its recycling site of multifunctional printers in China in July 2022 by switching entirely to renewable electricity
  • Reduced environmental impact of local wastewater treatment by sharing a large-scale treatment facility located at FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. in the Netherlands with neighboring companies
  • In-house treatment of all wastewater in manufacturing of sensor films for touch panels at the Ashigara site of the Kanagawa factory in Japan
  • Provides products such as magnetic tape storage media that can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by reducing electricity consumption during data storage

New Fujifilm Office in Madrid

What an exciting day for our colleagues in Spain – last week’s opening event of Fujifilm’s new office in Alcobendas, Madrid. Both Toshi Ida, President and Managing Director, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, and the Managing Director of Fujifilm Iberia, Pedro Mesquita, served to officially open Fujifilm’s new facilities. During the event, a press conference was held with healthcare and economic media journalists attending Toshi Iida’s presentation. The Madrid office is the most important in the Iberia region, after the also newly renovated headquarters located in Barcelona, embracing all the company’s areas of work: Healthcare, Photography and Graphic Communication, industrial materials and solutions, business innovation, etc.

Did you know that the most essential area for Fujifilm in Spain is healthcare? During a presentation that day, Toshi Ida confirmed the fact that Healthcare accounts for 45% of business in Spain, compared to 32% worldwide. Overall, all the Fujifilm divisions worldwide recorded almost 18.4 billion euros in annual turnover in March 2022. Of which 82 million euros were generated in the Spanish market, showing its importance.

100 Days in our new FUJIFILM Europe HQ

Wow! Can someone please pinch us? How can it be that 100 days have already passed since we left our headquarters at Heesenstraße Düsseldorf, Germany and moved to our brand new and more sustainable HQ in Ratingen, Germany?

Everything started back in 2021 with the groundbreaking on the new site in Ratingen. Ever since, the construction work of our new building was in full swing, leading to some busy weeks and month for our project team. Facing delays and delivery difficulties due to the ongoing pandemic, postponing the actual moving date from our old building to the new one over and over again accordingly, were just some of the main issues they had to face. Nonetheless, in the end everything turned out awesome, and our new European Headquarters was inaugurated with great expectation and anticipation from employees and also from the public.

After facing a few delays regarding construction works and delivery, we had to postpone our office move quite sometimes. We have actually planned to move to Rating at the end of 2021, then had to move it to the beginning of 2022 and finally, have been able to settle in at the beginning of April 2022. First, only internally, because some construction work is still in progress. However, on June 12, we finally had the honor of showing the world our new office in person at the official inauguration. Teiichi Goto, President and CEO of FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, Mona Neubaur, Deputy Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Mayor Klaus Pesch, City of Ratingen, were our three special guests who could not miss this special event.

The official opening of our new European HQ also market the opening of our brand new Open Innovation Hub and our showrooms. They feature our newest technologies and systems while giving everyone internally but also externally the chance to visit and get an insight into our ongoing research and development processes.

Our new Office Building in Ratingen has a lot to offer and if you want to visit our OIH or any of our showrooms, just sign up for one of our open tours.

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in the process of planning, constructing, documenting and realizing this ginormous project! Without these ambitious and hardworking people this would not have been possible. Now it is time to enjoy our new HOME.

New Climate Action Targets

We, as global players, have to change our mindsets and need to actively try to change and contribute to a more sustainable future. The FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation has announced new climate action targets to reduce CO2 emissions. The long term goal is to accelerate initiatives towards a zero-carbon future. This also includes reducing CO2 emissions across the entire product life cycle, from the procurement of raw materials to sales and transportation.

Fujifilm has been actively promoting actions to reduce the impact of climate change based on a strong and fundamental belief that environmental conservation is at the core of all Fujifilm’s corporate activities.

Chisato Yoshizawa, corporate vice president, ESG, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation

Moreover, Fujifilm launched a new Fujifilm Group environmental strategy, “Green Value Climate Strategy,” to further enhance the process of achieving these targets by FY2030.
